Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer has signed an enhanced Memorandum of Understanding with Adani Defence & Aerospace to set up a final assembly line for the E175 regional jet in India. The project forms part of India’s proposed Regional Transport Aircraft (RTA) programme and aims to strengthen regional air connectivity while deepening industrial ties between India and Brazil.

  • The two companies plan to build a complete aviation ecosystem around the E175 in India

  • This will go beyond simple assembly and include manufacturing, supply chain development, maintenance, repair and overhaul services, pilot training, and efforts to secure aircraft orders

  • Both sides say they are focused on creating long-term industrial capability within the country

India is one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets. Passenger numbers continue to rise, and industry estimates suggest the country could need at least 500 aircraft in the 80 to 146-seat category over the next 20 years. Much of this demand will come from smaller cities that require efficient, fuel-saving jets for short regional routes.

The E175, which can seat up to 88 passengers, is designed for high-frequency regional operations. The companies believe it is well suited to routes connecting Tier II and Tier III cities, many of which are underserved by larger aircraft. The aircraft is expected to help open new routes, improve reliability and support the government’s regional connectivity scheme, UDAN.
