Vietnam has invited two major Indian business groups, ACME Group and GMR Group, to explore large-scale investments in clean energy, high technology and infrastructure as the Southeast Asian country seeks to attract projects that support its green transition.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung made the appeal during separate meetings with ACME vice chairman Sanjay Dhawan and GMR founder and chairman Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao in New Delhi on September 12, according to Vietnamese government information reported by The Investor.

ACME explores green energy and industrial cooperation

ACME, which has more than 8 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in India, is interested in developing clean energy projects and expanding cooperation in Vietnam.

Dhawan said the company was also looking at technology transfer, trade and the development of raw material supply chains. ACME has signed an agreement in principle with a Vietnamese enterprise for the long-term supply of materials for green steel production, although it has not yet made a large-scale direct investment in the country.

Hung encouraged the group to examine opportunities in renewable energy, green hydrogen, energy storage and low-emission industrial materials

Vietnam is preparing changes to its investment framework to favour advanced technology, innovation, higher-value production and projects linked to global supply chains.

GMR considers airport and aviation projects

The Vietnamese leader also invited GMR Group to explore airport development and operations, airport cities, aviation services and digital technologies.

Vietnam plans to develop a network of 36 airports by 2030, with further expansion towards 2050. Rao said GMR was interested in working with Vietnamese partners and pointed to memoranda of understanding signed in May 2026 covering airport development, operations, consulting and technology.

The discussions come as Vietnam and India seek to deepen economic ties. Bilateral trade rose from $5.4 billion in 2016 to $16.4 billion in 2025. Trade reached $13.4 billion in the first eight months of 2026, up 25 per cent year-on-year.

India had 535 valid direct investment projects in Vietnam, worth $1.17 billion, as of August 2026.
