A new partnership between Prakash Padukone’s Padukone School of Badminton (PSB) and the Goa Badminton Association (GBA) is set to strengthen the sport across the state, from village courts to elite competition. The initiative seeks to build a clear pathway for young players, combining grassroots participation with professional training.
Badminton has long been popular in Goa, with indoor stadiums in Peddem and Cacora and courts spread across schools and villages. While the state has produced notable players over the years, maintaining a steady flow of top-level talent has remained difficult. This collaboration aims to address that gap by creating a more structured and connected system.
Under a two-year agreement, the plan includes organising age-group tournaments, improving coaching standards and developing a long-term strategy for the sport. Officials believe this could mark a turning point for badminton in Goa.
At its core, the project focuses on widening access. Every child should have the chance to play, while talented youngsters receive guidance to compete at higher levels. PSB, which runs more than 75 centres across India, is known for promoting participation alongside quality coaching.
GBA President Manoj Patil said the goal is to create a bridge from grassroots to elite sport, allowing players to train professionally without leaving the state. Secretary Pravin Thongal highlighted Goa’s strong infrastructure as a key advantage.
The first phase will focus on expanding access through schools and communities. Portable kits will allow children to play even without permanent courts. By linking participation, training and competition, organisers hope to build a lasting badminton ecosystem in Goa.
