A growing backlog in H-1B visa processing has left thousands of Indian professionals stranded, with no clear resolution in sight. The crisis stems from new procedural requirements, including enhanced social media vetting, which have significantly slowed down appointment scheduling.

Many visa holders who traveled to India for routine renewals are now unable to return to the United States due to the lack of available interview slots. Reports indicate that appointments have been pushed as far as 2027, creating uncertainty for workers and employers alike.

The delays have disrupted careers, separated families, and created legal and financial complications. Some companies have allowed affected employees to work remotely from India, but this arrangement is not always feasible due to regulatory and operational constraints

Advocacy groups have called on US authorities to address the backlog, warning that prolonged delays could harm both individuals and businesses. The situation has also sparked criticism over the use of immigration policies in political debates.

For many professionals, the uncertainty has led to concerns about job security, housing arrangements, and long-term career prospects. The crisis highlights broader challenges within global mobility systems, particularly for skilled workers.
