Indian travellers planning holidays or family visits to the United Kingdom are facing higher visa costs and stricter checks in 2026. The updated rules have led to a rise in visa rejections, especially among applicants who fail to provide proper financial proof or complete documents.

Most Indians visiting the UK apply for the Standard Visitor Visa, which covers tourism, business trips and family visits. The UK government has increased visa fees this year, making travel more expensive for many families.

  • The cost of a six-month visitor visa now stands at around ₹12,420. Longer-term visas are significantly higher, with a two-year visa costing nearly ₹46,650, a five-year visa around ₹83,270 and a 10-year visa crossing ₹1 lakh

  • Experts say travellers should also keep an eye on changes in the British pound exchange rate while planning their budgets

Although visitor visa holders are generally not required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, students and workers staying for longer periods may still need to pay the additional fee for access to the UK’s National Health Service.

Visa processing usually takes about 15 working days, but applicants are advised to apply at least three months before travelling. Priority services are available at extra cost for faster decisions.

Officials have reportedly become more cautious while reviewing applications. Many rejections are linked to missing paperwork, unclear travel plans or insufficient bank balances. Applicants are being advised to ensure all details in their forms match supporting documents such as bank statements, passports and employment letters.
