An Indian expatriate in Dubai has been recognised by Dubai Police after returning Dh100,000 in cash that he discovered in a parking area, leading to the swift recovery of the money by its rightful owner.

Mohammed Ali Sherakal Mohi came across the large sum while arriving at a parking lot in Dubai. Realising the significance of the find, he photographed the cash and the location where it was found before taking the money to Al Raffa Police Station and reporting the incident.

Police launched an investigation immediately after receiving the cash. Officers were able to identify the owner, a private shipping company executive, and return the money within three hours.

Investigators found that the businessman had withdrawn Dh200,000 from a bank earlier that day and placed the cash in a paper envelope. In a hurry to leave, he failed to secure the envelope properly before getting into his vehicle. As a result, one bundle containing Dh100,000 fell out without his knowledge.

  • The owner was unaware that he had lost part of the cash until Dubai Police contacted him

  • He later visited the station to collect the money and expressed his appreciation to both the police and Mohi for their efforts and honesty

In recognition of his actions, officers at Al Raffa Police Station honoured Mohi for demonstrating integrity and civic responsibility.

Colonel Ahmed Obaid bin Hudaiba, Director of Al Raffa Police Station, said the force remains committed to recognising members of the public who hand over lost property so it can be returned to its rightful owners. He noted that such actions reflect the values of honesty and contribute to the UAE’s reputation as a safe and secure society.

Mohi was also received by Colonel Saleh Hassan Al Marzouqi, Deputy Director of the station, and Captain Ali Haji Al Balushi, Head of the Customer Happiness Section, during the recognition ceremony.
