New initiative aims to streamline grievance redressal and provide easier access to official document verification for Punjabis living abroad
The Punjab Government has launched a dedicated WhatsApp helpline to assist Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) with grievances and service-related issues, as part of efforts to strengthen engagement with the Punjabi diaspora.
Under the initiative, NRIs can submit complaints and report problems through WhatsApp on 905-600-9884. According to the state government, complaints received through the platform will be forwarded to the relevant departments as well as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), NRI Wing, Punjab Police, for prompt redressal.
The move is intended to provide overseas Punjabis with a more accessible and efficient channel for addressing concerns related to government services and administrative matters without the need to travel to India.

State NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said the department is also facilitating the countersigning and attestation of important documents required by Punjabis living abroad
-
These include birth certificates, certificates of non-availability of birth records, police clearance certificates, marriage certificates and divorce certificates, among other documents
To simplify the process further, applicants can submit requests online through the E-Sanad portal and obtain document attestation from their place of residence overseas. The digital service is expected to reduce paperwork and processing delays while improving access to official documentation.
The government has also encouraged NRIs to visit the official NRI portal for detailed information about the Punjab Police NRI Wing, the State Commission for NRIs and the NRI Sabha. Officials said the measures form part of the state’s broader efforts to improve services for the Punjabi diaspora and ensure quicker resolution of issues faced by citizens living abroad.
The latest initiatives are expected to enhance communication between NRIs and government authorities while making essential administrative services more accessible through digital platforms.
