State government accelerates regularisation of ancestral homes built on public and community lands across Goa
The Goa government has announced that beneficiaries of the ‘Mhaje Ghar’ scheme will receive legal ownership documents for their homes at their doorsteps within the next six months, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said during a state-level programme in Panaji.
The ‘Mhaje Ghar’ scheme was introduced to regularise ancestral houses and grant legal ownership rights to long-time residents who have built homes on government, comunidade (community), or other public lands without proper documentation.
Addressing beneficiaries during the document distribution event, Sawant said the government had intensified efforts to implement the scheme across the state. He noted that the process of regularising houses was being carried out on a priority basis and assured residents that ownership documents would be delivered directly to eligible beneficiaries within the promised timeframe.

The Chief Minister also criticised opposition parties, alleging that they had attempted to create obstacles during the passage of the legislation related to the scheme in the Goa Legislative Assembly

He urged citizens to question opposition leaders about what he described as their stance against measures intended to benefit residents.
According to the government, the scheme is aimed at providing legal security to families living in homes that have existed for generations but lacked formal ownership records. Officials believe the initiative will help resolve long-standing property-related issues and offer greater certainty to thousands of households across Goa.
During the programme, ownership documents were handed over to several beneficiaries in the presence of state ministers, including Atanasio Monserratte, Rohan Khaunte and Nilkant Halarnkar, among other dignitaries.
The government expects the ongoing drive to accelerate the regularisation process and ensure that eligible residents receive legal recognition of their properties in the coming months.
