New non-stop UAE services from August will improve travel, trade and employment links for passengers across Northeast India
Residents of Northeast India will soon be able to travel directly to the United Arab Emirates as new non-stop flights from Guwahati to Dubai and Abu Dhabi are set to begin in August, marking a major milestone in the region’s international air connectivity.
The new services, announced by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, will provide the first direct air links between Guwahati and the two UAE cities. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce travel time for passengers who currently rely on connecting flights through Delhi, Kolkata or other major Indian airports.

According to the latest schedule released by Air India Express, direct flights between Guwahati and Dubai will commence on 4 August, followed by services to Abu Dhabi from 7 August

The airline will become the first carrier to operate direct flights between Northeast India and West Asia, strengthening the region’s access to one of the world’s largest destinations for Indian expatriates and business travellers
The new routes are expected to benefit thousands of people from Assam and neighbouring northeastern states, including professionals working in the Gulf, business travellers, students and tourists. Faster access to the UAE is also expected to support trade, investment and tourism while encouraging stronger cultural and economic ties between Northeast India and the Middle East.
The announcement forms part of broader efforts to improve international connectivity from the Northeast. Chief Minister Sarma has also indicated that the state government is working towards securing direct international flights from Guwahati to Vietnam in the future, further expanding the region’s overseas links.
Bookings for the new UAE services have opened through Air India Express, with the airline expected to announce additional operational details as the launch date approaches.
