Senior diplomat to take charge in Doha as India and Qatar deepen cooperation in trade, energy and strategic ties
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has appointed senior Indian Foreign Service officer Dr K Srikar Reddy as India’s next Ambassador to the State of Qatar, marking a key diplomatic posting at a time when bilateral ties between the two countries continue to expand.
Dr Reddy, a 2001-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently serving as the Consul General of India in San Francisco, United States. According to the MEA, he is expected to assume his new assignment in Doha shortly.
His appointment comes as India and Qatar strengthen cooperation across a range of sectors, including energy security, trade, investment, defence and technology. The Gulf nation remains one of India’s most important strategic partners in the region and is a major supplier of liquefied natural gas to India.

Qatar is home to one of the largest Indian expatriate communities in the Gulf, with more than 800,000 Indians living and working in the country. The welfare of the Indian community, along with consular services and labour-related issues, remains a key priority for the Indian mission in Doha.
Dr Reddy succeeds Ambassador Vipul, whose tenure in Qatar has concluded. During his diplomatic career, Dr Reddy has held several important assignments in India and overseas and has been associated with strengthening India’s international economic and strategic partnerships.
His appointment is expected to further reinforce India-Qatar relations as both countries seek to build on growing political trust and deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
