Two nurses from Kerala, two from Tamil Nadu among five killed in a Saudi crash

Four Indian nurses and a Saudi national were killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia’s Makkah province, according to reports
The accident took place on the Taif-Rania road on Friday, October 2, while the four nurses were travelling to Rania during their day off. They had reportedly gone to the town for shopping before the vehicle crashed about 40 km from Rania.
The Indian victims were identified as Jaisymol Mathew and Jobina Johny from Kottayam in Kerala, and Vijayalakshmi Jagadeesh and Hepsiba Devamani from Tamil Nadu. The Saudi national was driving the vehicle.
Reports said the vehicle collided with another vehicle before overturning. All five occupants died in the accident. The driver of the other vehicle survived.
The four nurses were employed at government healthcare facilities in the Taif Governorate under Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health. Jaisymol and Jobina were from Kottayam, while Vijayalakshmi was from Tamil Nadu and Hepsiba was from Pattukkottai in Thanjavur district.

The bodies were taken to the mortuary at Rania General Hospital as authorities began completing the required legal and administrative procedures
The Indian Consulate in Jeddah, along with NORKA and community representatives, is assisting with arrangements for the repatriation of the victims’ remains to India. India’s diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia provides consular assistance in cases involving deaths, including documentation and procedures for transporting mortal remains.
The deaths have led to an outpouring of grief among colleagues, relatives and members of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia.
