An Indian agriculture official has praised the UAE’s efforts to strengthen its food ecosystem and improve global food security, while calling for closer cooperation between the two countries in food trade, logistics and agricultural supply chains.

Dr C.B. Singh, Deputy Director General at the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, made the remarks during the Indian Pavilion at Global Food Week in Abu Dhabi. WAM

The event, being held from October 6 to 8, has brought together 2,580 exhibitors from 92 countries to showcase developments in agriculture and food production. It is organised by ADNEC Group in strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority.

  • APEDA Deputy Director General said India’s participation reflected the close economic relationship between India and the UAE and highlighted opportunities to expand trade in agricultural and food products

  • The Indian delegation includes about 10 exhibitors and five major trade associations representing sectors such as rice, fresh produce and horticulture

He said India has significant production capacity across grains, dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, processed foods and animal products. Participation in the event is intended to help Indian producers and businesses establish stronger links with UAE markets and international buyers.

Singh identified food security, food corridors and logistics networks as key areas for bilateral cooperation, particularly as disruptions continue to pose challenges to global supply chains.

He also welcomed the UAE’s approach of combining policy discussions with commercial opportunities. According to him, platforms such as Global Food Week can help governments, businesses and producers work towards more resilient food systems while improving the movement of agricultural products between markets.

The remarks underline the growing scope for India-UAE cooperation beyond traditional trade, with food security and supply-chain resilience emerging as important areas of engagement. WAM
