The Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC) Kuwait has elected a new leadership team for the 2026–2028 term, with greater business networking, institutional cooperation and stronger India-Kuwait economic engagement among its priorities.
The new team assumed office following the council’s annual general meeting and elections held on October 6 at the Holiday Inn in Salmiya.
Gaurav Oberoi, who served as vice chairman during the previous term, has taken over as chairman, while Sunit Arora, formerly joint secretary, has become secretary. Suresh K.P. was elected vice chairman, Krishen Suryakanth joint secretary and Ramadoss Karthik treasurer.
Oberoi said the council would work to strengthen its role as a platform connecting businesses, entrepreneurs and professionals in India and Kuwait. He also stressed closer engagement with the Embassy of India, Kuwaiti institutions, Indian industry bodies and international business councils.

The new leadership plans to build on IBPC’s existing links with organisations including Invest India, ASSOCHAM, FICCI, CII, NASSCOM, TPCI and FIEO

It also intends to deepen engagement with the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kuwaiti business leaders and business councils across the Gulf
Outgoing chairman Dr Kaizar T. Shakir highlighted the council’s progress during his tenure and called for greater participation by younger entrepreneurs and professionals. Former chairmen Dhiraj Oberoi, Tony Jashanmal, S.K. Wadhawan and Shivy Bhasin also urged members to expand networking and business partnerships.
The leadership transition comes as India-Kuwait economic relations continue to develop. Bilateral trade reached $9.57 billion in the 2025–26 financial year, while the Indian community remains Kuwait’s largest expatriate community, numbering about 1.05 million.
IBPC said its next phase would focus on wider cross-border networking, entrepreneurship, investment and professional collaboration.
