Oman and India have discussed ways to deepen economic and commercial ties, with implementation of their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) emerging as a key focus during high-level strategic talks in New Delhi.

The discussions took place on Wednesday at the 15th session of the Oman-India Strategic Consultation Group. The Omani delegation was led by Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, while the Indian side was headed by Sripriya Ranganathan, Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs for Consular, Passport and Overseas Indian Affairs.

The two sides examined ways to advance the CEPA and use it to expand trade, investment and broader economic cooperation. The agreement entered into force on June 1, 2026, providing expanded market access and preferential trade opportunities for businesses in both countries.

  • The talks also covered cooperation in civil aviation, maritime transport, logistics and energy

  • These sectors are important to the economic relationship given Oman’s strategic location and its role as a gateway connecting India with Gulf and wider regional markets

The meeting also addressed consular matters, bilateral agreements and regional developments. Oman’s Ambassador to India, Issa bin Saleh Al Shaibani, and other officials from both countries attended the discussions.

The latest talks build on efforts in recent months to translate the CEPA into greater commercial activity. An Oman-India Business Forum held in Muscat in September also examined opportunities for companies to benefit from improved market access and investment partnerships under the agreement.

India and Oman recorded bilateral trade of $11.18 billion in the 2025-26 financial year, up from $10.61 billion a year earlier, according to India’s Commerce Ministry.
