India announces lifting of quarantine requirement for International travellers

Fresh guidelines have been released by India on Monday, (October 25, 2021) for international travellers. The good news is that international travellers need not quarantine, though there is special emphasis on protocols to be complied with and those to be followed by airlines, points of entry (airports, seaports and land border) for risk profiling of passengers.

A declaration from passengers will now be required on the online Air Suvidha portal before the scheduled travel and a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR report conducted within 72 hours prior to travel, will have to be uploaded.

The declaration will also state the authenticity of the report, which in case found false, will lead to criminal prosecution. A review of the existing guidelines (issued on February 17, 2021 with subsequent addendums) has happened, post which a risk-based approach has been adopted in view of the changing nature of the virus and vaccination across the world. Travellers who will be allowed to leave the airport, will have to monitor their health for 14 days post-arrival.

As per the guidelines, mutual acceptance of World Health Organization (WHO) approved Covid-19 vaccines with countries travellers are coming from, is mandatory even for fully vaccinated travellers. Only then will they be permitted to leave the airport, and they will not require home quarantine and testing.
