Popular eating trends of 2021, according to Swiggy

Indians ordered 115 plates of biryani per minute in 2021. Over 4.25 lakh of new users debuted on Swiggy by ordering a chicken biryani

India loves its biryani. The popularity of the many variation of biryaini appears to be growing, according to a survey by online food delivery platform Swiggy. Indians ordered 115 plates of biryani per minute in 2021. The report titled “Swiggy StatEATstics 2021” mentioned that over 4.25 lakh of new users debuted on Swiggy by ordering a chicken biryani.

While samosas were ordered six times more than chicken wings, pav bhaji was the second favorite snack of Indians with 2.1 million orders. With a total of 2.1 million orders, gulab jamun was the most ordered dessert on Swiggy, followed by rasmalai with 1.27 million orders. Healthy food searches on Swiggy doubled in 2021 and so did health-focused restaurants on Swiggy HealthHub saw a 200% increase in orders. Bangalore became the most health conscious city, followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Swiggy Instamart’s online grocery service delivered over 28 million packages of fruits and vegetables in 2021 alone. Tomatoes, bananas, onions, potatoes and green peppers were the top five fruits. and vegetables delivered in less than 30 minutes. The total bananas ordered on Instamart exceeded the Statue of Liberty by 2.6 times, the company calculated.

The report also highlighted several special cases. He said the maximum distance a delivery partner traveled was 55.5 km to deliver a food package in Bengaluru, while the shortest was to go to a store 200 meters from a customer’s door. to get a tongue cleaner. Over 80% of customers chose to pay online instead of cash on delivery. Pan-Asian, Indian and Chinese cuisines were the top three cuisines ordered, followed by Mexican and Korean.

Food products accounted for 48% of the commodities transported by Genie with more than 20,000 of those orders being for pet food. In one case, a Swiggy Genie drove 43.3 km to deliver a box of brownies to a customer at Hyderabad airport, while a biryani lover in Calcutta took a Swiggy Genie delivery partner 39.3 km from home to get his favorite mutton biryani.

Chennai turned out to be the most generous city where a Swiggy delivery partner received a tip of Rs 6,000 for a single order. Bengaluru topped the charts for ordering most dosas in 2021.

As part of the war on COVID-19, a lakh mask and more than 4 lakh soaps and handwashes were ordered online, the company said. The “medicine” category on Genie saw an increase of 288.79%. Customers ordered a wide range of over-the-counter medicines, including homeopathic and Ayurvedic medicines.
