Qatar extends grace period for expats to correct legal status

The grace period has been extended up to March 31, 2022, to correct their legal status within the country. Previously the last date to correct the anomaly was to end on December 31, 2021. 

The Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has announced extension of grace period for expatriates who have breached provisions of Law No. (21) for the year 2015 that regulates entry and exit of all such persons, a report in The Peninsula, Qatar, says.  

The grace period has been extended upto March 31, 2022, to correct their legal status within the country. Previously the last date to correct the anomaly was to end on December 31, 2021.

The Ministry said in a statement on January 3 that this procedure is meant to protect the interests of the owners of companies and expatriate workers so that they could all benefit from 50 per cent reduction in the settlement amount to legalise their status.

The ministry called on eligible groups to meet the concerned authorities during the revised period and get their legal status corrected forthwith.

The expatriates and  employers falling in this  category must submit a request for reconciliation within the specified period to the Search and Follow up Department or to any of the service centres, including Umm Salal Services Centre, Umm Sunaim Services Centre, Musaimeer Services Centre, Al Wakra Services Centre and Al Rayyan Services Centre, or any of the following service centres that accept reconciliation applications and the issuance and renewal of the Residence Permit (RP) by the same employer (Al Shamal, Al Khor, Al Daayen, Umm Salal, Al Lulu, Unaizah, Souq Waqif, Al Rayyan, Umm Sanim, Al Sheehaniya, Mesaimeer, Al Wakra, and Dukhan).
