Police complaint raises questions over an alleged 2022 marriage, the elderly man’s medical care and financial transactions following his death
A family dispute involving an alleged marriage between a 37-year-old woman and her 83-year-old NRI uncle has come to light in Ahmedabad, with the deceased man’s son seeking a police investigation into claims involving family assets reportedly worth more than ₹25 crore.
According to a report by Vibes of India published on October 13, the woman claims she married the elderly man in 2022 and has produced a marriage certificate issued in Maharashtra. The allegations have not been independently verified.
The dispute emerged after the man died on August 1. His son, who reportedly returned from the United States to look into his father’s affairs, approached the police, alleging that the marriage claim was linked to an attempt to gain control of the family’s property.
The report states that the elderly man, a US citizen who had spent years abroad before returning to India for retirement, had supported the woman’s education in Canada. After she returned to India, she reportedly lived at the family’s bungalow in Ahmedabad’s Usmanpura area, saying she would care for him.

He further claims that treatment was stopped again after he returned overseas. The elderly man subsequently died on August 1
Financial transactions have become another point of contention. According to the complaint, ₹60 lakh from a security fund was transferred to the woman’s account after the man’s death. The son has also alleged that $30,000 kept in a locker went missing.
The report further refers to disputed claims concerning the man’s marital status and the paternity of a child. These matters form part of the wider family dispute.
The son has sought an investigation into the alleged marriage, the handling of his father’s finances and the circumstances surrounding his final days. The allegations remain claims made in the complaint; the available report does not establish that wrongdoing has been proved or provide the outcome of a police investigation.
