Air India Mumbai-Melbourne flights from December 15

Air India is set to inaugurate its groundbreaking non-stop service connecting Mumbai, India, to Melbourne, Australia, marking a significant expansion of its global route network.

Commencing on December 15, 2023, Air India will offer a tri-weekly schedule between Mumbai and Melbourne, establishing itself as the sole non-stop operator on this route. This remarkable addition to Air India’s offerings is expected to provide a boost of nearly 40,000 seats annually to Victoria, Australia. Notably, this region boasts a substantial Indian community of over 200,000 individuals, representing around 40% of the total Indian diaspora in Australia. The new service has been strategically designed to cater to the increasing demand for visits to friends and family as well as to capture the burgeoning interest in business and leisure travel to the area.

Air India will operate these Mumbai-Melbourne flights with its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, equipped with 18 flat beds in Business Class and 238 spacious seats in Economy

Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial & Transformation Officer of Air India, expressed enthusiasm for the impending launch, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience: “We look forward to launching the only non-stop flight between Mumbai and Melbourne. This is a great step forward in our ongoing transformation program, which among other aspects aims at connecting India to more of the world with non-stop flights. We are excited to showcase the positively changing Air India flying experience to travelers on this route, of which great Indian hospitality will remain a cornerstone.”

Natalie Hutchins, Minister for Jobs and Industry, Victoria State Government, Australia, also shared her excitement: “We’re very excited that the first direct flights from Mumbai to Australia will land in Melbourne. This new route will boost tourism, create local jobs, and open more pathways for Victorian businesses to reach one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.”

For the convenience of travelers, Air India has arranged one-stop connections to and from Melbourne via Delhi or Mumbai from 17 Indian cities. Furthermore, the Mumbai-Melbourne route seamlessly connects London Heathrow to Melbourne through Delhi and Mumbai, enhancing global connectivity.

Air India will operate these Mumbai-Melbourne flights with its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, equipped with 18 flat beds in Business Class and 238 spacious seats in Economy.
