The airline received its designator code, ‘QP’ on May 17

Mumbai-based Akasa Air, India’s newest low-cost airline Akasa Air, which is backed by investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and aviation veterans, Vinay Dube and Aditya Ghosh, would start commercial flight operations in July. The airline received its designator code, ‘QP’ on May 17.

The airline will fly between metro to Tier 2 and 3 cities in India. Akasa Air tweeted: “Quite Proud to announce our airline code – QP!” The carrier received the no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Civil Aviation in August 2021 to launch commercial flight operations.

The planes will be delivered over the next five years making Akasa’s fleet the youngest and greenest in the country

Akasa Air will be buying 72 Max planes. It may be pointed out that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Indian aviation regulator DGCA) okayed the controversial Boeing 737 Max aircraft in late August last year. The planes will be delivered over the next five years making Akasa’s fleet the youngest and greenest in the country.
