Muscat: “Cities of Pastel” an exhibition of paintings by artists Rahma Al-Hajaria and Samira Al-Yaqoubiya opened at the Gallery Sarah, under the patronage of Her Highness Al Sayyda Alia bint Thuwaini bin Shihab Al Said, on Tuesday, November 1.

Artists Rahma Al-Hajaria and Samira Al-Yaqoubiya are exhibiting over 40 of their artworks done in surreal and abstract styles reflecting features of cities done in mixed media. It is basically a narrative of city dwellers and their environment in various aspects, bringing into focus their individual perspectives 

Samira Al-Yaqoubi, has a Master’s degree in jewellery design, and a Ph.D. in philosophy in curricula and teaching. 

Her artworks deal with the Omani environment, rich with ancient heritage in all its panorama, as she brilliantly portrays details of this wonderful culture in a surreal style. 

She has participated in several exhibitions from 1998 until 2014; including a joint exhibition entitled (Once upon a time) at the Opera Galleria and a solo exhibition (Glory of Muscat) at the Omani Society for Fine Arts 2012. 

She has also participated in several exhibitions abroad, including the United Kingdom, Russia, Jordan, and Qatar. The artist has also released her first book entitled (Silver) in 2012.

Artist and art teacher, Rahma Al-Hajaria, has years of experience to her credit. Her works are inspired by the ancient history and  the rich heritage, of her country, particularly its mosques, and domes in addition to issues related to women. 

The artist has experimented with various materials such as paper and cloth. She prefers to work with acrylic colours and inks. 

She has participated in several art exhibitions, including; the “Color Imprints” exhibition at the Cultural Club in 2011, the “Spray of Art” exhibition at the Omani Society for Fine Arts in Dhofar Governorate in 2012, and the exhibition “Once Upon a Time” at Opera Galleria in 2013. 

Rahma has a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Sultan Qaboos University and a Master’s degree in Curricula and General Teaching Methods from Sohar University.
