Recent online reports suggesting that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to release Rs 500 bank notes featuring Lord Ram in lieu of Mahatma Gandhi are false and misleading, according to a report by The Tribune, Chandigarh.

The rumor gained momentum on social media platforms, particularly with claims that these notes would be officially unveiled on January 22, coinciding with the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. However, it has been confirmed that the images circulating online are manipulated and do not represent any official currency design.

Originally shared by a user named Raghu Murthy on January 14, the images quickly went viral, prompting the creator to distance themselves from the misinformation. In a statement, Raghu Murthy clarified, “Someone has misused my creative work to spread misinformation on Twitter. I want to clarify that I do not support or own any of the misinformation they have attributed to my work. It’s important to me that my creativity is not misrepresented in any way.”

It is crucial for social media users to exercise caution and verify information before sharing, as the circulation of such misleading content can contribute to the spread of false narratives

The user further explained, “Edited by my friend @raghunmurthy07, this piece is a product of creativity and not intended to be presented as notes. Please refrain from spreading misinformation.”

Upon closer inspection, the authenticity of the images is questionable, and the official website of the RBI does not contain any formal details or updates regarding the purported design change. Additionally, the notes appear blurry, further reinforcing the fact that these images are doctored and lack any official endorsement.

As such, it is crucial for social media users to exercise caution and verify information before sharing, as the circulation of such misleading content can contribute to the spread of false narratives.
