With the support of stakeholders and institutions, the Boccia State Level Awareness & Training Camp 2025 set a new benchmark for inclusive sports in India
In a remarkable push towards fostering inclusivity in sports, the Boccia Sports Federation of India (BSFI), in association with the Para Telangana Boccia Association and the SBI Foundation, organized the Boccia State Level Awareness & Training Camp 2025 at Hotel Katriya, Hyderabad.
The day-long camp brought together over 20 wheelchair-bound athletes along with their families, providing them not only expert guidance in the Paralympic sport of Boccia but also a platform for empowerment, rehabilitation, and mental well-being. The initiative underlined Boccia’s growing importance as a tool for holistic development and community integration for individuals with disabilities.
The event was graced by Hon’ble Justice N. Tukaramji of the Telangana High Court, who shared an inspiring message with the attendees. “Seeing these athletes engage with Boccia is both humbling and uplifting. The sport instills discipline and restores a sense of dignity and purpose in participants. It is a vivid reminder of the critical need for inclusive support systems,” he noted.
Anil Kumar, IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Telangana, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the resilience of the participants.
“Boccia serves not only as a sport but as a medium of empowerment, self-expression, and social change. Such platforms must be supported to help break longstanding societal barriers.”
Dr. Vikas Bhatia, Executive Director at AIIMS Bibinagar, emphasized the therapeutic potential of adaptive sports. “Boccia not only aids in physical rehabilitation but also nurtures emotional strength and social connectedness. Camps like this pave the way for sports-based therapy to be recognized as a vital aspect of disability care.”
Other dignitaries present included Ashok Bedi, Chairperson, BSFI Advisory Committee; Jaspreet Singh Dhaliwal, President, BSFI; Shaminder Singh Dhillon, Secretary General, BSFI; Dr. Ravinder Singh, Senior Scientist at ICMR HQ New Delhi; and noted businessman Uttaravalli Majji Naidu, among others.
Sharing BSFI’s broader vision, President Jaspreet Singh Dhaliwal said, “This camp is just the beginning. We are committed to nurturing Boccia talent across the nation and building a strong foundation for India’s future Paralympians.”
Shaminder Singh Dhillon, Secretary General of BSFI, concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks. “We aim to replicate this initiative across states, ensuring every aspiring Boccia player—regardless of their background—receives the support and training they deserve.”
