Boeing’s Chief Human Resources Officer and Executive VP is Indian American Uma Amuluru

Former Obama White House Counsel Uma Amuluru will head Boeing’s Human Resources department as its Chief Human Resources Officer and Executive Vice President, effective April 1, the company announced last week, reported americankahani.com. The Indian American succeeds Michael D’Ambrose who announced his plans to retire this July. She will report to Boeing President and CEO David Calhoun and serve on the company’s executive council.

In her new role, she will be responsible for “Boeing’s talent planning, global talent acquisition, learning and development, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, and diversity and inclusion initiatives,” according to the company press release.

Amuluru joined Boeing in 2017, and currently serves as Vice President and general counsel to Boeing Defense, Space & Security, a position she has held since early 2023. Before that she served as the company’s first chief compliance officer.

Before joining Boeing, she held several senior positions in the federal government. As counselor to US Attorney General Loretta Lynch, she “advised on high-profile criminal and law enforcement matters,” according to her LinkedIn profile. She was also associate White House counsel to President Barack Obama, where “she provided legal and strategic advice to senior White House officials on issues involving compliance, oversight and risk management,” the profile added. She also served as assistant United States attorney for the District of Columbia.

Amuluru began her legal career as a commercial litigator for large companies facing complex legal disputes. As an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Amuluru represented companies in government enforcement actions, investigations, and state and federal litigation. She also served as a law clerk at the Northern District of Illinois and the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

She holds a Juris Doctor from Northwestern University School of Law and earned a bachelor’s degree from Duke University. She currently serves on the board of directors of Legal Aid Chicago.

The New Jersey-born-and-raised Amuluru is the daughter of Dr. Prabhakar Rao Amuluru, a cardiac anesthesiologist, and mother, Dr. Jaladurga Amuluru, who was until 2006, a staff internist at the Veteran Affairs medical clinic in Hackensack, New Jersey.
