This comprehensive analysis surveyed 2,000 people across all ethnicities, along with an additional 1,400 ethnic minority respondents, providing a detailed snapshot of the socio-economic landscape in modern Britain
A recent UK-based study reveals that British-Indians are one of the highest-performing ethnic groups in terms of education, employment, and home ownership. The report, titled A Portrait of Modern Britain Ethnicity and Religion, was published by a leading think tank and highlights the impressive socio-economic achievements of this community.
According to the study, British-Indians also represent the most concentrated ethnic group in the UK. A significant 71% of British-Indians live in homes they own outright or through a mortgage, underscoring their strong financial stability.
The study analyzed data from the 2021 Census, which shows that over one-third of British-Indians in England and Wales live in London, further indicating their concentrated presence in urban centers
Furthermore, Indians boast the highest proportion of professionals among all ethnic groups in the country.
The study critiques the broad use of the term “ethnic minority” in public policy, arguing that such classifications mask the significant differences between ethnic groups. For example, while South Asians are often grouped together, the study highlights economic and social disparities between British-Indians, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis that require more nuanced attention.
A key finding is that family support plays a pivotal role in the success of British-Indians, with 56% of respondents attributing their achievements to strong relationships with family members. This underscores the importance of familial networks in fostering success within this community.
