Travellers from India can travel to Canada, as the Justin Trudeau-led federal government has decided to lift the five-month travel ban from India. The ban was imposed in April. After several postponements, the new order allows direct flights from India from Monday, September 27, 2021.

A tweet from Canadian authorities said direct flights from India could now land in Canada, albeit in accordance with its protocols of additional public health measures.

All passengers should have proof of a negative Covid-19 test from the approved Genestrings Laboratory at the Delhi airport.

Now even fully vaccinated passengers will need to access the ArriveCAN mobile app or website to upload information

This has to be ensured within 18 hours of the scheduled departure of their direct flight to Canada.

It was termed a decisive step as it was going to work towards normalising air mobility between India and Canada by India’s high commissioner to Canada Ajay Bisaria.

Last Tuesday, Canada had extended curbs on all direct flights from India until September 26. Air Canada will resume flights from India, while Air India will do the same from September 30.

Earlier the two airlines were operating flights as per an air bubble arrangement between Canada and India.

Now even fully vaccinated passengers will need to access the ArriveCAN mobile app or website to upload information. They will not be able to board if they do not upload necessary documents on the app. Those travelling to Canada via an indirect route must have a negative Covid-19 test report from any other third country, except India, conducted within 72 hours of departure.
