Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Indian origin are set to benefit from a new initiative, the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship program, which will soon grant them the opportunity to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada on permanent residence visas. This program, as reported by M9, is currently accepting applications for a total of 15,000 sponsorships.

To be eligible for this scheme, applicants must be 18 years of age or older and meet specific criteria, including being a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or registered under the Canadian Indian Act. Additionally, sponsors must demonstrate sufficient financial resources to support their family members. The application intake is scheduled to commence on October 10, 2023, and invitations for application submission will be issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

For those who may not secure sponsorship under this program, there is an alternative option known as the Super Visa. This visa grants parents and grandparents an extended stay in Canada, with a validity of up to 10 years. Holders of the Super Visa can stay in the country for a maximum continuous period of 5 years, and this stay can be further extended by an additional 2 years. This provides families with flexibility in reuniting and spending quality time together in Canada.
