Covaxin to be allowed in UK from November 22

From 4am of November 22, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin would be added to its list of approved Covid-19 vaccines for travellers coming in from India

The British government government has added vaccines listed under the WHO Emergency Use List for inbound travel rules and has also laid down that under-18s worldwide would not need to self-isolate on arrival.

The UK government has announced that from 4am of November 22, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin would be added to its list of approved Covid-19 vaccines for travellers coming in from India.

That will allow travellers who have received both doses of Covaxin at least 14 days before their arrival into the UK. Also they will no longer be required to quarantine. Along with Covaxin, UK has also added Sinovac and Sinopharm Beijing to its approved list of Covid-19 vaccines.

Following this move, passengers fully vaccinated with Covaxin and have received their vaccine certificate will no longer be required to take a predeparture test, day 8 test or would need to self-isolate upon arrival.

These passengers will just need to pay for a lateral flow test to take before the end of their second day, post-arrival

The British government has also announced that all under-18s coming to Britain will be treated as fully vaccinated at the border and will be exempt from self-isolation requirements on arrival, day 8 testing and pre-departure testing.

They will only be required to take a post-arrival test and a confirmatory free PCR test if they test positive.

UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps in a statement to the media said that the announcements marked the next step in UK’s restart of international travel. He also said: “By also simplifying the rules for international travel for all under-18s coming to England, we’re bringing further good news for families looking to unite with loved ones, and another great boost for the travel sector.”
