Several Naxals are down with Covid-19. This has led to Naxals thinning out in jungles and avoiding crowding or gatherings. At least 9 members of CPI-Maoist had fallen prey to Covid-19, besides four to five top commanders.

It is generally felt by the security forces that this may make them lie low for sometime and that they will not  organise attacks on troops too in this period.

This fact was revealed post the arrest of Maoist leader Sobhroi alias Gaddam Madhukar, who passed away at the Osmania General Hospital in the first week of June this year. It has come to light that the pressure of security forces is stopping them from going to urban areas for treatment.

Surprisingly, Ravula Srinivasa aka Ramanna’s son, who worked as Platoon Party committee member in the outlawed CPI-Maoist, surrendered before the Telangana Police on July 14. According to sources, this was due to  Covid-19 being at play.

Maoist Ramanna, who headed Dand Karanya Zonal Special Committee (DKZSC) for all militia actions against security forces in the state, died in November 2019. His surrender was a big setback, as the Naxals are already reeling under the pandemic.

Intelligence sources confirmed that several commanders and members of People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) too are affected.
