Delhi to see electric autos in a few months

The transport department has also made it clear that a permit allotted to a woman applicant can only be transferred to another woman, the minister said. “Since women’s autos will be of a different colour, it will easily come to notice if a man is driving it,” Gahlot said. Since only 698 women applied for the permit, Gahlot said the remaining 708 permits would be given to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to be allotted to women drivers to run e-autos for the last mile connectivity

The Delhi Transport Department in November 2021 had invited applications to grant permits to run 4,261 autorickshaws in the capital. The department has also reserved 33% permits, 1,406 e-autos for women.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said after the Supreme Court disposed the petition against the government’s policy to bring in green vehicles, the Transport Department had fast-tracked the allotment process.

While concerns were expressed that while the original allottees of the CNG autorickshaw permit were allowed to transfer them only after five years, the e-auto permit has been allowed to be transferred in just one year. “We have changed that provision,” Gahlot said.

The Delhi government is also providing a purchase incentive of Rs 30,000 per e-auto and the facility of loans with a 5% interest subvention through empanelled agencies, apart from exemption from registration fees and road tax under its electric vehicle policy. The government is also developing public charging stations across the city

Once the draw was completed, the transport department will issue the permits within a few days. While the public service vehicle (PSV) badge was not a mandatory requirement at the time of application, the successful applicants will have to obtain a PSV badge within 45 days of the draw of allotment.
