This trend highlights a growing preference among Asia Pacific couples to make their special day even more memorable by opting for destination weddings, with cultural and familial considerations playing a significant role in the decision-making process
Destination weddings are becoming increasingly popular across the Asia Pacific, with Indians leading the trend of tying the knot in exotic locales. According to a report by ttrweekly.com, there is a growing demand for destination weddings among various nationalities in the region, with Indian couples showing the highest interest.
A recent survey conducted by Skyscanner, in collaboration with OnePoll, targeted adults who are planning or have already celebrated their weddings. The survey revealed that 68% of adults in the Asia Pacific interested in weddings either want to or have already had a destination wedding. Indian respondents topped the list, followed by those from Singapore, South Korea, and Australia.

When selecting a destination, Indians prioritize parental approval (50%) and tradition/culture (44%), whereas in Australia, Singapore, and South Korea, the top priority is cost and budget, with over 75% of respondents citing these as their primary concerns

While cost and budget are also important to Indian couples, they rank third (41%) after parental approval and tradition
The survey also found that a significant portion of APAC adults, around 30%, are willing to spend 26-50% more on a destination wedding compared to a traditional hometown ceremony. When it comes to choosing wedding locations, couples from India, Singapore, and South Korea tend to prefer destinations within Asia, while Australians often opt for locales within Oceania.
In terms of planning, social media has become a key tool, with about one-third of respondents using it to plan their destination weddings. Additionally, over 20% of respondents in each market consider using online travel agents, while a smaller percentage are exploring travel meta-search engines and AI-powered search tools for wedding planning.
The survey sampled a diverse group of respondents: 2,000 from Australia, 2,000 from India, 1,000 from Singapore, and 1,000 from South Korea, all aged 18 and over. Interestingly, nearly 75% of Indian respondents have attended a destination wedding, whereas two-thirds of South Korean respondents have not, and over half of Australians are yet to experience one.
