Divisha Kapoor, daughter of Indian immigrants, shines at Ameriprise

 Divisha Kapur describes her journey into financial services “by accident”. Forbes describes her as one of America’s top financial security professionals. After graduating from Eastern Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Kapoor was working in banking when she took on a role as a field assistant to a broker. She would go on to cycle through a handful of firms over nearly three decades in the industry before landing at Ameriprise in January 2020.

Kapur is well aware that markets are going to experience volatility and ensures that clients do not make a bad decisions during these times because she is confident that markets will bounce back.

Divisha Kapur has learnt that it is important to have respect and honesty in a relationship with a client if you want them to follow your advice. Her success in implementing that type of relationship is why she has had so many clients follow her as she moved firms

As the first generation of her family born in the United States and coming from an Indian background she says she has not faced challenges specifically related to her race or gender despite being in the minority in financial services.

Kapoor’s mentor is her father who immigrated to the US from India in 1973. His journey, work ethic and how he sacrificed for his family have been an inspiration throughout her career.
