Free e-Visa for two years, demands FAITH

The move would help the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors that have been battered by the two-year-long border closure to survive and revive

The Federation of Associations of Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH) has asked the government to lift all travel restrictions with immediate effect and start commercial scheduled airlines operations. The move would help the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors that have been battered by the two-year-long border closure to survive and revive.

FAITH in its statement has said that as Omicron recedes, quite a few countries have announced opening of borders for international travel for vaccinated travellers. India, the Federation said, would do well to start reopening borders.

Also, FAITH wants the government to extend the 5 lakh free e-Visa extended till March 31, 2024. Along with these measures, FAITH wants the Ministry of Tourism to start an aggressive marketing campaign across all digital, print, electronic, and OOH media in all global markets of India to promote the Incredible India brand

The Indian inbound travel and outbound travel industry has not seen any action for the past 23 months. In the pre-Covid year of 2019 -20, the Indian travel industry had received almost 10.9mn foreign tourists and almost USD30bn (INR 2.12 lakh crores) in revenue and was engaged in travel planning for almost 26.9mn outbound travellers from India. Both the lines of businesses have been completely closed, bringing in its wake unemployment, and financial burden on employees and enterprises.

FAITH has asked the Ministry of Tourism to address the opening of borders with the Ministry of Health and start full commercial flights with zero quarantine for fully vaccinated travellers across all Indian ports.

Also, FAITH wants the government to extend the 5 lakh free e-Visa extended till March 31, 2024. Along with these measures, FAITH wants the Ministry of Tourism to start an aggressive marketing campaign across all digital, print, electronic, and OOH media in all global markets of India to promote the Incredible India brand.
