Fully vaccinated Indians will not have to quarantine in UK

UK has announced that travellers vaccinated in India with Covishield will be treated the same as returning fully vaccinated UK residents

From October 11, all Indians fully vaccinated with Covishield will not have to go through quarantine in UK. This declaration from UK came on the same day that India announced the opening of borders for foreign tourists.  UK has announced that travellers vaccinated in India with Covishield will be treated the same as returning fully vaccinated UK residents, as long as they have not visited a red list country or territory in the 10 days before arriving in England.

Along with India, UK has added 37 new countries and territories including Brazil, Ghana, Hong Kong, Pakistan, South Africa and Turkey, to its vaccine-eligible countries list.

Britain’s Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, while announcing the decision, said, “Restoring people’s confidence in travel is key to rebuilding our economy and levelling up this country. With less restrictions and more people traveling, we can all continue to move safely forward together along our pathway to recovery.”

Britain’s Health and Social Care Secretary, Sajid Javid, said, “We’re now making it easier and cheaper for people to travel by allowing fully vaccinated travellers from non-red list countries to use lateral flow tests on day 2 of arrival, as long as they provide proof of use.”

Following the decision by Britain, India will also roll back its mandatory quarantine for UK nationals

The British High Commission in India tweeted the decision: “Indian travellers to benefit from expansion of UK’s new simplified system for international travel announced today. New rules for Indian travellers who have received both doses of Covishield or another UK-approved vaccine at least 14 days before arrival in the UK: no quarantine, no pre-departure or day 8 test, book and pay for day 2 Covid-19 test. All other travellers from India must continue to: take a pre-departure test, book and pay for day 2 and day 8 Covid-19 test, and home quarantine for 10 days (can be shortened to 5 if a further test proves negative). You do not need to be vaccinated to travel to the UK. Travellers without an approved vaccine must quarantine on arrival. All travellers must complete a passenger locator form 48 hours before arrival.”

Following the decision by Britain, India will also roll back its mandatory quarantine for UK nationals.
