Commerce Minister strengthens economic partnerships across four European nations as legal review of the landmark India-EU trade pact nears completion
India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has concluded a five-day visit to Europe, reinforcing trade and investment ties with key partners while pressing for the early implementation of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
The minister travelled to Spain, Belgium, Finland and Estonia between 13 and 18 July, accompanied by a high-level business delegation. During the visit, he held discussions with government ministers, senior officials, investors and industry leaders to expand commercial cooperation and deepen strategic economic engagement.

Goyal said the legal scrutiny of the agreement is expected to be completed shortly, paving the way for the next phase of the landmark trade pact. He also noted that the agreement has received broad support from EU member states
The discussions covered a wide range of sectors, including advanced manufacturing, clean technologies, innovation, digital transformation and sustainable investment. Meetings with business representatives also explored opportunities to strengthen supply chains, promote technology partnerships and encourage greater cross-border investment.
The visit comes as India and the European Union seek to expand economic cooperation amid evolving global trade dynamics. The proposed agreement is expected to improve market access, facilitate investment and enhance collaboration across several industries, benefiting businesses on both sides.
Besides bilateral meetings, Goyal participated in business forums aimed at connecting Indian and European companies and promoting long-term commercial partnerships. Officials believe stronger engagement with European economies will support India’s export growth, attract fresh investment and create new opportunities for Indian enterprises.
The tour is seen as another step towards translating the India-EU trade agreement into practical economic gains while strengthening India’s strategic and commercial ties with Europe.
