Princess Theodora and Matthew Kumar’s Love story blends Greek royalty and Indian traditions
Princess Theodora of Greece tied the knot with Indian-origin American attorney Matthew Kumar in a grand ceremony at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral in 2024, blending regal charm with rich cultural diversity, reported hindustantimes.com.
Before their opulent Greek Orthodox wedding, the couple visited Dehradun in India and celebrated a traditional haldi ceremony, embracing Kumar’s Indian heritage.
Princess Theodora, 41, is the daughter of the late King Constantine II — the last King of Greece before the monarchy was abolished in 1973 — and Queen Anne-Marie.
Despite the monarchy’s end, the royal family still uses ceremonial titles. Theodora, also an actress known for her role in The Bold and The Beautiful, met Kumar in 2016.
The couple announced their engagement in 2018, but their wedding was delayed twice — first due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and then following her father’s death.
Matthew Kumar, 35, is a California-based attorney of Indian-Fijian descent. He was born to Shalendra “Sam” Kumar and Yolanda Sherry Richards, and is the founder of FarMar Law Group. Although raised in the US, Kumar’s Indian roots were honored during the couple’s pre-wedding visit to Dehradun, where they participated in a haldi ceremony in 2019.
Photos shared by Theodora show her dressed in a blue saree and Kumar in a traditional kurta pyjama, highlighting the cross-cultural essence of their union.
The grand 2024 wedding saw the attendance of several European royals, including the Serbian Crown Prince, and symbolized the coming together of two rich heritages — Greek royalty and Indian culture.
