Greenfield airport slated to come up in Dholera, Gujarat

The new Greenfield Airport at Dholera with an estimated cost of INR 1,305 crore, to be completed within 48 months

The government has announced the construction of a new airport in Dholera, Gujarat. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister approved the proposal for the development of Phase I of the new Greenfield Airport at Dholera at an estimated cost of INR 1,305 crore, to be completed within 48 months, reported ETTravelWorld.

The airport will be built on 1,700 acres of land and 1.426 hectare of government land that has been reserved at Navagam village of Dholera in Ahmedabad District by the Gujarat government. The new airport will have a 3,200 meter long runway equipped to handle Code-E aircraft.

The airport at Dholera is situated at an aerial distance of 80 km from Ahmedabad Airport. The Airport is planned for operationalization from 2025-26 and initial passenger traffic is estimated to be three lakh passengers per annum. It is expected to grow to 23 lakh over 20 years.

The project is being implemented by Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL), which is a joint venture company comprising the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Government of Gujarat (GoG), and National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) holding equity in the ratio of 51:33:16

The annual cargo traffic is also estimated from the year 2025-26 at 20,000 tonnes, which would increase to 2,73,000 tonnes over a period of 20 years.

The Dholera airport will get passenger and cargo traffic from Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) and is expected to become a major cargo hub to serve the industrial region. The airport will cater to the nearby region and serve as a second airport to Ahmedabad.
