Swift cyber crime investigation helps overseas Indian recover full amount after email complaint from Australia
A Sydney-based Non-Resident Indian (NRI) has recovered ₹11 lakh after Gujarat Police successfully investigated an alleged online gold purchase fraud, highlighting the growing effectiveness of cyber crime units in handling complaints from Indians living overseas.
The complainant, Saurabh Jolly, originally from New Delhi and now residing in Sydney, Australia, approached the Amreli district police by email in June after allegedly being cheated in a gold transaction. According to police, Jolly had transferred ₹11 lakh in April 2026 to an individual in Gujarat’s Amreli district for the purchase of gold. Despite receiving the payment, the seller allegedly failed to deliver the gold, prompting the NRI to seek police assistance from abroad.
