This heartwarming story of generosity and community support showcases the impact one person’s compassion can have on the lives of others
Alex, a former NRI, noticed the anxiety on the face of Aneesh, a helper at his house in Purayidathinkavu, whenever rain seemed imminent. Concerned, Alex asked Aneesh about his worries. What he heard left him deeply moved: Aneesh’s family—his wife, two children, and elderly mother—were living in a precarious tarpaulin shed on a hillside, vulnerable to the elements, mathrubhumi.com reported.
Touched by Aneesh’s plight, Alex, who had returned to Pullad in 2019 after years of working in Kuwait, decided to act. Aneesh, who had been assisting Alex with plucking pepper, was in dire need of a safer home for his family. The family’s makeshift shelter in Charummoodu was at constant risk of collapse, and Aneesh’s modest earnings were barely enough to get by. His wife occasionally worked as a daily laborer, but the family primarily depended on Aneesh. His son was in Plus One, and his daughter was in the fifth standard.
While the construction is now underway, more funds are needed to finish the house. Alex remains committed to supporting Aneesh, tirelessly working to secure the remaining resources to complete the home
Alex’s first attempt to help was to purchase an aluminum roof for Aneesh’s shelter, but the structure’s hillside location rendered this ineffective. Realizing more substantial help was needed, Alex discussed the situation with his family and decided to donate a portion of his property. He transferred five cents of his land to Aneesh and even provided a four-foot-wide path leading to it.
Despite this generous gift, building the house was still a significant challenge. Alex didn’t stop there; he laid the foundation for a 500-square-foot house with two rooms and a kitchen. To fund the construction, Aneesh took a bank loan of Rs 2.5 lakh. However, this was insufficient to complete the project.
Determined to see Aneesh’s dream realized, Alex sought further assistance from his relatives and friends, raising an additional Rs 2.5 lakh. While the construction is now underway, more funds are needed to finish the house. Alex remains committed to supporting Aneesh, tirelessly working to secure the remaining resources to complete the home.
