Hindu fundraiser wants Hindu-Americans to play lead role in President Biden’s re-election

In the run-up to the 2024 general elections, Ramesh Kapur, a Massachusetts-based political fundraiser and influential figure within the Democratic Party, is urging a strategic focus on mobilizing Hindu-Americans for President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign. Kapur, who played a role in persuading California Governor Gavin Newsom to veto a bill against caste discrimination, emphasized the growing significance of Hindu-American voters within the Democratic constituency.

Traditionally, Hindu-Americans and Indian-Americans have leaned towards the Democratic Party, but recent election cycles have witnessed a rise in Republican support within these communities. Kapur, attending the Democratic National Committee’s winter retreat, disclosed that he submitted a detailed report to the party leaders, emphasizing the critical nature of Hindu votes for Biden’s re-election, especially in light of challenges arising from the Israel-Hamas conflict and discontent among Muslim-Americans.

As the 2024 elections approach, Kapur’s strategic recommendations underscore the evolving dynamics within the Democratic Party, emphasizing the need to cultivate and secure support from Hindu-American voters to bolster Biden’s re-election prospects

While acknowledging the perception that the Democratic Party is viewed as anti-Hindu, Kapur is actively working to dispel this notion. He has engaged with the White House and the campaign to reshape this perception and secure Hindu-American support. Kapur conducted a survey comparing Muslim and Hindu votes state by state, revealing that in battleground states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Wisconsin, Hindu votes are comparable to or exceed Muslim votes.

In his recommendations to the campaign, Kapur proposed initiatives to alter the perceived anti-Hindu image, including visits to Hindu temples in key battleground states. The Democratic Party has reportedly agreed to invite a Hindu priest to the Democratic Party Convention in Chicago next year. Furthermore, Kapur plans to advise President Biden to meet with Hindu leaders at the White House, mirroring previous engagements with Jewish and Muslim leaders. He also suggests that Vice President Kamala Harris, with her Hindu heritage, visit temples in battleground states.

Highlighting the Obama administration’s focus on Muslims during its eight years, Kapur notes a shift in the Biden administration’s approach, potentially alienating Muslim-Americans. He argues that Biden should address the concerns of both communities to maintain a balanced approach in international conflicts.

As the 2024 elections approach, Kapur’s strategic recommendations underscore the evolving dynamics within the Democratic Party, emphasizing the need to cultivate and secure support from Hindu-American voters to bolster Biden’s re-election prospects.
