A huge Swaminarayan temple is now under construction in Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE. According to the Ambassador of India to the UAE, the temple is a new example of tolerance. Also, it will make the Hindu community settled here feel at home. UAE Ambassador to India Hassan Sajwani shared some pictures of his visit to this temple.

In May this year, when India signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the UAE, the relations between the two countries reached a new level. There are currently 3.5 million Indians living in the UAE. The first Hindu temple was opened in Dubai in 1950. At that time, 15 acres of land was donated by the authorities there for this temple. The temple was an example of Indian and Islamic architecture.

The temple was re-inaugurated by Sheikh Nahan bin Mubarak, UAE’s minister of tolerance. Nahan had said at that time that when the construction of the new temple was completed, the cooperation with India would increase further. According to him, the cultural cooperation between India and UAE is very deep and it will get stronger in the times to come. The new temple is being built on 27 acres of land.

In 2015, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to the UAE on his first official visit, the land for this temple was announced. This temple will be similar to the Akshardham temple located in Delhi and New Jersey and it will open in 2024. However, before that devotees have already started visiting the site

In 2019, the foundation stone of the temple was laid in the presence of three UAE ministers. The temple is located in Abu Murekh, close to the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway. The temple will be the first temple in the Middle East to be traditionally built of stone. This temple is being prepared with the help of craftsmen from UAE and India. Apart from the prayer hall, the temple complex will also have exhibition hall, children’s play area, theme based garden, fountains, food court as well as book and gift shop.
