Indian official reveals incentives for UAE filmmakers, emphasizes strengthening media ties between India and UAE

India has invited the UAE’s media and entertainment industry to the upcoming World Audio-Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES Summit), a groundbreaking global event set to take place in Mumbai this May. The summit aims to foster collaboration across the film, television, animation, gaming, OTT, and broadcasting sectors, reported gulfnews.com.

Speaking during his recent visit to Dubai, Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, emphasized that the summit is more than just an event—it is a movement aimed at shaping the future of the media and entertainment industry through storytelling and innovation.
Jaju highlighted the summit’s focus on fostering business partnerships and promoting cultural exchanges between global leaders. He pointed out that the UAE is a key participant due to its deep-rooted media and cultural ties with India
Strengthening media collaboration between India and UAE
Jaju discussed India’s extensive media collaborations with the UAE, which boasts a large Indian diaspora and a deep love for Bollywood and South Indian cinema. Both nations face common challenges in the sector, such as OTT content regulations, social media policies, and revenue distribution among tech giants and content creators.
Sanjay Jaju also noted that the UAE’s strategic location in the MENA region and its growing significance in media infrastructure make it an ideal partner for India in expanding their global media presence.
India offers incentives to UAE filmmakers
India is positioning itself as a prime destination for international filmmakers, offering tax rebates, subsidies, and access to world-class production facilities. Jaju invited UAE-based filmmakers to take part in the summit’s 22 international challenges, which include competitions in filmmaking, animation, gaming, music composition, and AI-driven storytelling.

India and the UAE have a well-established cultural exchange, particularly in the film industry, with festivals like the Indo-Dubai International Film Festival (IDIFF) and the Indian Film Festival in the UAE. Indian films continue to play a significant role in strengthening the people-to-people ties between the two countries.
