India and United Kingdom discussed ways to further strengthen people-to-people contacts between the two countries as part of the India-UK 2030 roadmap.

The discussion was held during the first India-United Kingdom (UK) Consular Dialogue on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, through video conferencing.

India hosted the Consular Dialogue, which was attended by an Indian delegation led by Devesh Uttam, Joint Secretary (CPV), Ministry of External Affairs and from UK side by Jennifer Anderson, Director Consular Services, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

The idea behind the Consular Dialogue was to facilitate consular access and early resolution of consular grievances including through systematic information sharing, and cooperation on visas, extradition cases and mutual legal assistance, an MEA press release said.

Both sides agreed to hold the next round of this Dialogue in 2022, in London, at a mutually convenient date, the release said.
