Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar has taken a firm stance against what he describes as a concerning rise in attacks targeting Hindus and Hindu places of worship across the United States. Thanedar’s remarks come amidst growing apprehension within the Hindu community regarding what he perceives as a coordinated assault on their faith, reported india.com and PTI.

Addressing the media at the National Press Club in Washington, Congressman Shri Thanedar voiced his distress over the escalating incidents, labeling them as the “beginning of a coordinated anti-Hindu attack.” He emphasized the proliferation of misinformation, both online and offline, contributing to this disturbing trend.

Together with fellow Indian American lawmakers, including Ro Khanna, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ami Bera, and Pramila Jayapal, Thanedar recently petitioned the Department of Justice (DoJ) to investigate the surge in assaults on Hindu temples and sacred sites.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the apparent lack of action from law enforcement agencies, Thanedar criticized the absence of arrests or punitive measures against perpetrators. He underscored the imperative for unity within the Hindu community in the face of these challenges, cautioning that the current wave of attacks might only be the precursor to more systematic persecution.

Despite Hinduism’s ethos of peace, Thanedar lamented its persistent misrepresentation and misunderstanding, which he believes fuel such targeted assaults. The recent spate of attacks, particularly on temples, has instilled fear within the community, exacerbating their sense of vulnerability.

Thanedar’s impassioned plea for solidarity underscores the urgent need for proactive measures to safeguard the rights and dignity of all religious communities in the United States.

Thanedar raised concerns about the efficacy of local law enforcement investigations, asserting that they often yield no tangible outcomes, leaving the community feeling neglected and unprotected. He called for enhanced coordination between local authorities, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Department of Justice to prioritize hate crimes against Hindus.

In pursuit of justice and equality, Thanedar disclosed his introduction of a resolution in the United States Congress addressing anti-Hindu attacks. He reiterated his commitment to pressuring the administration to safeguard the rights of the Hindu community and ensure their peaceful existence.

Utsav Chakrabarti from HinduAction hailed Thanedar’s resolution as a significant milestone in the battle against anti-Hindu crimes in the US, underscoring the necessity for collective action to combat religious intolerance and bigotry.

As tensions persist, Thanedar’s impassioned plea for solidarity underscores the urgent need for proactive measures to safeguard the rights and dignity of all religious communities in the United States.
