Renowned Indian celebrity chef and actor, Ranveer Brar, is all set to share the silver screen with Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor Khan in an upcoming murder mystery. In a recent interview with Gulf News, Brar humorously attributed his acting journey to the combination of “good Korma and good kismet,” emphasizing that the rest is like the proverbial gravy.

Brar’s unique entry into the world of acting is a tale of culinary conspiracy. Hansal Mehta, the Indian National Award-winning director known for works like ‘Shahid,’ ‘City Of Lights,’ and the popular web series ‘Scoop,’ apparently lured Brar with the prospect of gaining access to his legendary Mutton Nihari recipe. To win him over, Brar prepared over 70 kilos of the delectable meat dish for Mehta. “The Mutton Nihari that you saw in ‘Modern Love Mumbai’ was authentic. I made it with my own two hands… Our connection starts with all things fine like food, music, and movies. There’s just a certain trust that builds when you love the same things. And he’s one of the few filmmakers who strongly believes that creativity is a collaborative process,” Brar shared.

Despite his character residing within him, Brar has mastered the art of leaving it on the movie set, demonstrating his passion for acting. His keen observation of people’s reactions to his culinary creations has made him more sensitive, a quality that undoubtedly contributes to his success as an actor

This collaborative spirit extends beyond the screen and is evident in Brar’s restaurant, Kashkan, located in Dubai Festival City. During our visit, Brar attentively supervised the food preparation, displaying his meticulous attention to detail—an attribute that has served him well during his transition from celebrated chef and TV host to actor.

Brar’s decision to venture into acting stems from his belief that life is defined by the roles we play, whether as a father, husband, son, chef, or actor. He believes in embracing these roles on the big screen, recognizing that we have only one life to live.

Though Brar remains tight-lipped about his character in the upcoming atmospheric thriller ‘The Buckingham Murders,’ he admits to being drawn to complex and morally ambiguous roles. His lean appearance and sharp features have typecast him as a potential villain, a perception he doesn’t mind. According to him, the most substantial roles in movies often go to the antagonists.

Brar’s experience in the high-pressure environment of the kitchen has been instrumental in his acting career. He compares the intensity and emotional rollercoaster of a kitchen to the world of cinema, making the transition seamless. As a judge on MasterChef India for several seasons, he gained valuable experience and learned the art of mental agility, allowing him to switch between roles effortlessly.

Despite his character residing within him, Brar has mastered the art of leaving it on the movie set, demonstrating his passion for acting. His keen observation of people’s reactions to his culinary creations has made him more sensitive, a quality that undoubtedly contributes to his success as an actor.

‘The Buckingham Murder’ is scheduled to premiere at the London Film Festival (BFI) this October, and fans are eagerly awaiting Brar’s performance in this intriguing thriller.
