A 2025 case of serial shoplifting has emerged from Singapore’s Changi Airport involving an Indian-origin man who allegedly stole items from multiple stores across terminals. The man was arrested on June 1 while transiting through Changi Airport, just days after his return from India, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

Singapore Police said they were first alerted on May 29 at around 4:28 pm, after a retail supervisor at Jewel Changi Airport discovered a missing bag during a stock check. CCTV footage revealed the suspect taking the bag and exiting the store without payment. However, he had already left Singapore by then.

The man allegedly stole goods worth over SGD 5,000 from 14 stores across Changi Airport, including perfumes and bags

Upon his return to Singapore, the Airport Police Division detained the man and found several unaccounted-for items in his luggage. Subsequent investigations, aided by CCTV footage, confirmed that he had stolen from at least 13 other outlets at Jewel and within the transit zones of various terminals.

The total value of the stolen goods — which included cosmetics, perfumes, and handbags — amounted to SGD 5,136 and was recovered in full.

The suspect is now facing 13 charges of Theft in Dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871, each of which carries a maximum punishment of seven years in prison, a fine, or both. He also faces one additional charge under Section 35(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act 1906 for fraudulent possession of property, which may result in up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
