A horrifying case of sexual abuse by an Indian-origin man in East London came to light after a routine device repair revealed videos of child exploitation. Vruj Patel, 26, was sentenced by Snaresbrook Crown Court to 22 years in prison for a string of grave sexual offences, including the rape of a child under 13, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

The case surfaced when Greater Manchester Police received a report about child sexual abuse videos found on a device sent for repair. The device was initially linked to Kishan Patel, but Met Police investigators soon identified Vruj Patel as the perpetrator seen in the footage.

Further investigations uncovered additional material showing sexual offences against a young girl known to the brothers, as well as the rape of a woman after a university night out, and acts of voyeurism involving another victim. Detectives connected Patel to the crimes through clothing and jewellery evidence.

Patel will remain on the sex offenders’ register for life, while his brother, Kishan Patel, 31, received a 15-month sentence for possession of indecent images of children

Patel pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including:

  • Rape of a child under 13
  • Assault of a child under 13 by penetration
  • Four counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity
  • Rape of a woman over 16
  • Sexual assault by penetration
  • Possession of indecent images of children
  • Voyeurism

Detective Sergeant Rob Blant, who led the investigation, condemned Patel as a “cowardly, opportunistic offender” who preyed on vulnerable victims for personal gratification.

“The threat he poses to women and children has been reflected in his sentence,” DS Blant said, adding that Patel would remain under lifetime monitoring through a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and sex offender notification requirements.

The detective praised the extensive investigation that led to the conviction, calling it “a fantastic example” of teamwork by Metropolitan Police detectives to protect victims and the wider public.

Authorities have urged anyone who may have had contact with Patel or believes he may have been around children to come forward immediately.
