Indian students continue to lead in Germany for the second year

  • A significant 60% of Indian students in Germany are pursuing engineering degrees, while 21% are enrolled in courses related to law, management, and social studies

  • Another 13% have opted for maths and natural sciences. This steady rise highlights the growing appeal of German universities among Indian students, particularly for technical and professional programs

For the second consecutive year, Indian students form the largest international student group in Germany, with numbers steadily increasing.

According to the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) regional office in New Delhi, the number of Indian students in Germany has more than doubled over the past five years.

The latest data from the Federal Statistical Office of Germany reveals a 15.1% increase in Indian student enrollment over the past year, bringing the total to 49,483 for the Winter Semester of 2023-2024.
