ISG student wins third place in 5km Oman Desert marathon

Seethalekshmi was elated she had  come third in the Open Female Category. The event was held at Al Jawharat Bidiyah Resort in the Sharqiyah Sands on November 20 of to coincide with the 51^st National Day of Oman

Seethalekshmi Karayil Kishore, a class 8 student of Indian School Al Ghubra, won the third position in the 5 km run in the Open Female Category of the Oman Desert Marathon 2021. 

The event was held at Al Jawharat Bidiyah Resort in the Sharqiyah Sands on the 20^th of November to coincide with the 51^st National Day of Oman. 

Seethalekshmi was elated that she came third in the Open Female Category which had people from different nationalities. She said that she had taken part in athletic events in school earlier but became quite inactive recently. 

The encouragement she received from her Sports teachers Mr. Murugan, Mr. Vijayan Rao and the Supervisor Mrs. Shamshad Hamza has helped her push her limits and take up this challenge. She urged her peers to give due importance to physical health along with academics.

Like her parents, the members of the ISG family are immensely proud of Seethalekshmi’s achievement.

Oman’s own adventure racing brand, the Oman Desert Marathon featured a kids race, a   5km run, a  10km run and a 21kal Hajirim Desert Half Marathon.

Earlier, before the start of the races, Said Al Hajiri the founder and owner of the race had said: “Whilst we will  not see the longer distance races this year, we willput on a great weekend option for all the people who enjoy running and who enjoy the desert”.

“The Oman Desert Marathon has grown in popularity over the years, but had to be postponed earlier whilst the pandemic was raging”, he added.

Nic Cartwright, Maanaging Director at Sabco Sports said: “This is an even that was conceived and created in Oman. It celebrates many things great about the country”.
