The British Council has inaugurated the UK Education Hub in New Delhi, marking a major step in strengthening education ties between India and the United Kingdom. The launch event on 18 February 2026 was attended by UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and senior Indian officials, underlining the importance of education cooperation in the India–UK Vision 2035 roadmap.

  • The new hub is designed as a single-window platform to make collaboration between universities in both countries easier and faster

  • It will coordinate requests from UK universities that wish to launch joint degree programmes or set up branch campuses in India

  • By working closely with India’s University Grants Commission, the hub aims to reduce regulatory delays and simplify approvals under the new foreign-campus rules

For students, the initiative could bring clearer pathways for credit transfer between institutions in India and the UK. It is also expected to make the issuance of Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letters smoother and could help speed up post-study visa processes once joint degrees are formally recognised. This is welcome news for Indian students planning to study in the UK from the September 2026 intake onwards.

The hub will also benefit employers and multinational companies. With more Indian graduates holding UK-recognised qualifications, companies may find it easier to recruit and transfer talent across borders through skilled worker and youth professional routes. An annual ministerial Education Dialogue is planned to discuss key issues such as post-study work options and dependants’ rights.
